Is it necessary?

Can you get away with having a T5 lighting fixture rather than having metal halide lights when housing an anemone?

My tank is 48" long and the fixture I am looking at is 432 watts. These are the lights that it comes with... (includes two 460nm Actinic Blue and two Daylight 10,000K SlimPaq high output T5 lamps.)

If I wasnt such a noob at saltwater aquariums I would know things like this, but I am still learning ;) Do you think I would be able to have this fixture and have an anemone?

Should be O.K. for BTA and LTA. But if your new to saltwater and/or the tank is new, wait at least 6 month for the tank to mature (and your husbandry skills) before you get an anemone.

My first and long decessed anemone wishes I had :( .

Thank you for the replies!

Thats what I wanted to hear, saves me alot of money.

Sorry about your anemone kamil5000, I will learn from your mistake and wait, thanks again.

And when it's time to get one, research it first!
That way you'll know what you want, that you can care for it well, and you can watch for a healthy specimen. I think half the battle for caring for anemonies is getting a healthy one to start out with, and the best way you can do that is by research (occassionally by accident).

Good luck, and good for you for waiting! It's not easy, I know! We're on our second tank, and I don't think we're clear for the nem until December!! Luckily the original tank has a nem and a couple clowns for us to watch until then!

raoul- thanks for the advice, good luck with your second tank. Hopefully i can get mine in around New Years.

iReef69- another newbie question, but what is a RBTA?

BTA is bubble tip right?

RBTA = Rose Bubble Tip Anemone (beautiful rose/reddish colour - but much more expensive then the regular tan coloured BTAs')

ya I would wait and learn as much as you can before investing in an anemone, then when you think you know what you are doing, wait ANOTHER 6 months, lol
