Is it ok to have bubles on acrylic corners?

Ok I had a cusom tank made for me, got it today and found out that there are tons and tons of bubls along each and every seem.

And the guy did not polish the seems as we agreed on.

And on some of the corners there is a white substance on the out flat part of the corner on the front of the tank

Further more when I called the guy he was rude and acused me of runing up his phone bill in order to get back at him, I was nothing but nice and just wanted to work it out .


He wants me to send the tank back so that he can flame polish the seems, is this ok or will it cause more poblems, oh and I have to pay to send it back.


Should I call my credit card company or make a claim with paypal.


I want to know if I am out of line before I post any names.

Thanks guys, just tring to get this tank going, been waiting a long long time.

Well if you agreed to something( and have it in wrighting) then you have every right to send the tank back and call your criedt card company to stop the payment.

Now if you do have a contract and it says plosihed seems then you must give him a chance to fix them( with in a resoable ammount of time) AS too the bubbles you might be out of luck unless the contract says "bubble free" or you can have a expert say that do to the bubbles the tank will not work for its "intended purpose" in this case old water. Find such a person is VERY, VERY hard. Your best bet is to go and talk to that person face to face.

it all really depends on your state and local laws.... All of what I said could be drasticly changed by the laws of your state.
 
If the joints are unseen or you can live with it, leave it alone. Flame polishing is only going to weaken an already weak joint. Bubbles are the weaker joint.
As far as it not meeting your expectations, well thats another story. If it was made just for you and not a off the shelf product you may be out of luck.

Dude! Seriously return this tank and notify your credit card company! All those bubbles you are talking about? are they on the bottom seam as well?(where the sides meet the bottom material on the tank) The "whitening" you speak of is blushing of the solvent used to join the acrylic together. This is due to humidity in the environment in which the tank was constructed and further weakens the joints! Do NOT fill this tank with water unless you want a swimming pool in the location where it is!!! it might take a week, it might take a month but you WILL have a mega mess on your hands!! Shoddy work indeed! Who was this if you don't mind me asking

I want to give the guy a chance to fix it before, I will post pictures latter when I put this tank together of all the problems. I documented it very well.


I don't want anyone else to have to go though this.

Geez! I'm sorry that you have to deal with those kind of issues! PM me a pic of the seams so I can take a look at em'. I've been doing this tank building gig for almost ten years now,(turned the hobby into some side project cash!) and have studied and worked under one of the best fabricators in the country, and that is a big time problem! This kind of work just gives all of us who do good work a bad rap! once again, mega bummer!-Ben
 
you'd think humidity wouldnt be a problem right now, it is winter in most places. should be dry as hell.

I would file complaint with credit card company first and foremost. The longer you wait the less likely you will be to have a positive outcome. He has the money now what motivation does he have to make it right for you? He seems to already have proven to not care, I would take it to CC company ASAP.
 
If your unhappy with the product, stop payment or file a claim.

If you used paypal, your out of luck. Paypal is owned by eBay. eBay/paypal does NOTHING to stop fraudulent vendors. Actually they help to protect them. When you used paypal, you likely voided your credit card protection also. Ebay/Paypal makes money off of transactions, good or fraudulant. They have no vested interest in helping you, as it will only COST THEM money in lost commisions and posible loss of a profitable vendor. Take a look at the largest "power sellers" on eBay and you will find company after company that does nothing but run bait and switch schemes or other scams. The little guys are starting to catch on and make money also. Remeber feedback scores are useless and eBay has that system "rigged" also (it's entire design is to lessen the effects of negative feeback to larger sellers). Ever wonder why you can't "sort by feedback type" and look at all of the negatives for a vendor? Simple, they don't want you to see patterns of abuse. Ever wonder why many buyers don't post negative feedback? It's because posting negative to a seller with 5,000-10,000 transactions will only drive the buyers 100 or so feedback rating substantially lower becuase of the retalitory feedback posted by the fraudulant seller. Ever notice most power sellers don't post postive feedback, only negative!

So as some others have said, take action now and take it swiftly. You said the guy was rude on the phone and accused you of running up a phone bill.... What more do you need? I have heard of giving people a chance, but I don't think you are looking at the situation with a clear head.

I say post some pics and let us all know who this "craftsman" is that hosed you... (a website URL and email would also be nice)

This could prevent anybody from dealing with them in the future.

Ebay is crap! Paypal is worse..
 
Give us an update!! I'm watching this thread daily to see how this pans out for you! Nothing sucks more than to wait for a new tank and not be able to fill it when recieved! Expose the manufacturer if things are not made right so this type of situation is not repeated. I'm ****ed for you as well!!
 
What size is the tank and thickness of acrylic? Need to see the bubbles in the seams. If there is 50% bubbles in seams then it is that much weaker. You should post the pics with the name of manufacturer so others will know about them. If you are unhappy with it send it back even if it costs you shipping, that beats getting stuck with a bunk tank. If the tank is faulty go after their arse! Go there if not probabably not local sale give them a call to find an acceptable resolution.
 
personally Id do the same thing I usually do when someone rips me off I get me my girlfriend and her bro and my old trusty friend Loius (louisville baseball bat that is) usually I end up with the money and a very good attitude from them when I leave!!
