Is it okay that my clownfish sleep on top?

in QT my clownfish were 90% of the time in the pvc pipes, since being introduced 7 weeks ago to my DT, they just swim in the front of the tank when the lights are on and when they out, the go to the rear of the tank on the top.

they never go anywhere near the live rock or nice caves and hiding places i have for them.

is this normal / ok?

As long as they appear to be swimming fine and eating I wouldn't worry. I have found that clowns can be a bit strange at times. Quite often they will even pick a power head or similar object in your tank to hang out around.

My overflow has been hosting my clowns for several years now. They had plenty of other "normal" places to be hosted. So yes, perfectly abnormal.

I have a pair of clowns in QT right now. When the lights are on they are swimming in and out of the PVC and along the front. When lights are out they are at the top swimming on their sides. When I got home after the first night and didn't see them I figured they died somehow, no I just need to bend over and look up.

I had some that would sleep up top and only go 2 inches down in my 180g.

I started to feed lower in the tank, once they saw that they were safe they went all over.

Now.. yeah king's of the tank.

Clowns are weird little fish. Mine have roamed all over at various times. Hosting the corner is a favourite. Hosting algae when the tank was new. Hosting power heads. Hosting the sand in the corner. Hosting my elegance... There is a reason they are called clowns! :)

Clowns arent great swimmers so might be too much flow in your tank for them to "venture out", especially perc and occy's, mine hang around the top corners too, never go near rockwork, so yeah, normal

My clowns wander the tank during the day, and sleep in the top rear corner at night.. Neither one will host any of the nems in my tank wither.. LOL

They are funny critters!

Mine stay tucked into their anemone all night together. Don't know what they would do without it!
