Is it okay to mix different Ocellaris Clowns strains

Mixing diff color ocy's is fine, it's when you mix species that can cause issues.

Just buy 2 juvies or 1 big one and one small one and you should be good to go. Just 2 clowns total for the tank though.

Absolutely. They are the same species, regardless of why they should have been culls, I mean regardless of what "designer" strain they are.

Is it okay to mix different Ocellaris Clowns strains

I have one pair of saddle backs, living in perfect harmony with one pair of common Ocellaris. The started schooling at first sight

My LFS has typical juvenile Ocellaris, juvenile Mocha, and juvenile Misbar. What considerations should I give to a mix pair?

You can definitely mix different strains. :) Or even different species for that matter - though that is a bit harder, as you may have to consider issues with compatibility (specifically in terms of aggression, as some species are naturally more aggressive than others). You can even mix different species from different genera (such as mixing something from the Premnas genus with something from the Amphiprion genus).

Just make sure you follow the general rules of thumb when it comes to Clowns. Generally only a pair would work, more will fight to the death, etc. etc.

speaking of culls....I mean designer clowns- any opinion on their long term healthy/ viability versus "non-designer"

I think they should be fine as long as they are not physically deformed like bent spines/missing or misshapen fins, blunt faces and other things I've noticed some have. Those would be considered real 'culls' :p and not just a fish with a different color pattern over the wild type.
