I been having problems with my tank basically since i set it up with sps corals. Some do fine others burn tips other stn. not sure what is going on i tried everything under the sun. now i have another sps starting to stn. is a wild piece from bali. it encrusted the plug not much growth since i got it. I have a 90 gallon with a Elos Planet II light. 2x 150's 4 39w t-5's. I changed last week from ushio 14k to phoenix 14k because i couldn't stand the ushio's because it gave the tank a yellow look. mh were on for 6 hours a day so i put in the new bulbs and kept the mh at 6 hours a day. Is it possible that the change in lighting caused that coral to STN?

I dont think change in light will cause stn it may cause bleaching issues though. stn is more likely tied to your water quality. What are your parameters and how much and often do you do water changes

Couldn't agree more. Checking your water parameters will give us a better chance of helping us try and figure out what could be the problem in your tank. Have you checked phosphate recently? Phosphate was the main cause for my sps bleaching recently. Also what test kit are you using? I used API and always came out with 0 but recently got a Hanna checker and phosphate read 0.12! Big difference and I found my problem.

my water has been spot on for who knows how long ca 450 alk 8.5 mg 1300 nitrates 0 phos reads between less than .01 (Elos Test Kit). It's been going on for a while and its starting to drive me nuts. If anything i think sometimes my tank is to low in nutrients because i have a couple of pale corals not many and my tank is clean as hell no algae anywhere. Fish i have 6 lyretail anthias CB butterfly, pink spot goby, dusky wrasse and xmas wrasse. Sometimes i say how can i be low in nutrients with 10 fish in the tank but who knows. just trying to get some help. forgot temp sorry between 80-82. i do water changes once a week 10%.

i really doubt its phosphates because i have 3 other tanks and if i take the coral out and put it in any of those tanks (phosphates are higher than my 90 not by alot of still higher) the coral stops whatever is going on and heals up.
