I am really interested in purchasing a control and monitoring system from Neptune Systems. I am a student in high school and I plan on attending a college far away from my home. This would be a great way for me to be able to control my tank and not fear my parents messing it up. Since I am a student however, I do not have a bunch of money to throw around. I was just curious to know if this is a wise investment.

Thanks everyone

i believe so. it is a luxury though. but by no means does it replace hands on maintenance

AquaControllers have their quarks, but it is still well worth the expense and occasional frustration. Three times I would have lost my entire tank if I hadnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t had the controller set up with safety codes and alarms in place.

Once I forgot to turn off the calk pump, once I left the state for the weekend; the weather was cool when I left, so the house air conditioner was off. When I got home, the temp was in the 90ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s. The AquaController had shut down all the MH lights and turned on all the fans and the chiller. At that temp, the chiller would not have been able to keep up if the lights had stayed on. One time I was in Hawaii and at home there was a bad ice storm. The power was on an off may times and caused problems with the AC. My husband was home and is not a reefer. He is also computer illiterate and hates computers. I was able to reprogram the AC from Hawaii. The AC also sends an alarm if the power goes out.

Personally I consider it a necessity for a healthy stable reef, not necessarily a luxury.

You will also be able to maintain you tank with more constant settings, creating a much more stable environment for your marine life.

Neptune is continually working on the device to make it better and include more features. And their customer service is impeccable!

Im in the same boat as you d9sccr but I cannot decide to go with the Jr. or the RC II there arent many things the II can do that the Jr. cannot am I right? I would like to make a decision on one I just don't know which to spend my money on.

i use the aquacontroller.. mainly i liked the season table feature.
and at the time.. i felt like the aquacontroller was more expandable, easier to use and setup, and had REALLY good reviews and tech support.
i still feel that way!
and the season table feature is AWESOME!
not only can you set your temp to fluctuate small amounts but also the moon lights run on the lunar cycle, so some nights the moonlite is brighter then others.
from what i understand the reefkeeper just turns stuff on and off.. no "cycle" or table to go by.
and from what i have read the aquacontroller also has a more powerfull programming language.
just my 2 cents
