So the lfs near me has a colony of yellow polyps for sale. The rock its on is probably 5"by5" maybe a little bigger with a ton of polyps and a maybe 5-10 zoas on it. Its 20$ I believe. Now the catch is the rock has a bunch of gha it. not so much as to wear the polyps are smothered because most are open but I was just wondering if it would be worth buying this?

GHA doesnt grow without an energy source. If your water lacks what it needs, it will quickly die out. I wouldnt hesitate to buy something with a little GHA on it if there was something I liked.

I've never really been a big fan of those Yellow polyps myself, but if you like the rock and the price is right then by all means go for it. You might want to dip the coral in a mild Hydrogen Peroxide solution before you add it to your tank though. This should help with the GHA.

If it is GHA and not Bryopsis than it is not an issue. You can manually pluck it off or do a quick peroxide and toothbrush to it if it really bothers you.

I'm not really sure if its gha or Bryopsis so I'm not sure I want to take the chance since I'm a noob. They also have a large piece of what I believe is green finger leather for the same price. Would this be good for a noob?

Is it worth it?

Easy to tell the difference. Just google it.

Yes, finger leathers are tolerant of quiet a bit. Give it decent light and flow and it should be fine

Not in my opinion.
Gha is what you see...you have no idea what other problems you may import with that rock. If the system containing it allows gha to thrive I'd look somewhere else for yellow polyps. They are hardly rare.

okay it looks like gha so I might take the chance once the tank cycles. It should die off then since it will be the only thing in the tank except for liverock?

Sorry for all the questions but im a noob. When I set up the tank would it be good to ask the lfs for a scoop of sand from there florida lr tank to add to my livesand in order to get some of the worms and stuff? Also would aquacultured or florida lr be better? It seems like the the florida lr that the lfs has is fairly dense and the grown lr is much bumpier and has many more holes.
