I have recently bought a friends tank and set-up. It is a 100 gallon tank with 2 65watt daylight and 2 65watt actinicts. He gave me some corals and its been about 3-4days now and still have not opened up all the way. The xenia seems to have wrinkles at the steems. A week ago, it looked ok when my friend had it. He had the same set-up. He gave me couple of mushrooms, xenia, and a colt. Is my lighting even enough to grow this corals..?
Is lights enough..?

when Xenia is curled up like that something is not right they grow like a weed in minimal light setups, if ur water is good then try moving him in a different spot in your tank. did u put new sand in the tank or reuse the old sand. old sand that is sturd up is no good it can cause big problems in water quality.
Maybe got out and buy some test kits.
Some LFS aren't very switched on and mistakes can happen.
Poor light mat explain poor growth but I think with that light they would open.
If things on the sand died and things on the rock died while moving perhaps that is causing ammonia spikes.
Maybe the Ph isnt right did the LFS check your PH.Is your tank temp set right ?
I think do regular smallish water changes and you should be right.
But that's just me....

you stired up a lot of junk in the sand bed. I assumed you used the old sand that he gave you? you moved this tank when? how long has it been setup since you moved it? it sounds like you are going through a bit of a cycle get your own test kits and see what they say. I don't trust most LFS
also what is the temp of the tank and what are the temp swings from the hotest part of the day to the coldest? mid moring to 4pm?

It's NOT your light. I've had a colony of Xenia under 240 watts of normal output flourescent light for years.
If you disturbed the sandbed and put it back during the move, your water is NOT fine.
You should have your own test kits and be testing everyday right now for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH.
