liveaquaria says yellow finger gorgonians & red sea fans should be fed few times a WEEK. Is this true or do they need a few times a DAY like I hear about so many of the NPS corals?

Well LA just posted blueberry sea fans saying they only need to be fed a few times a week, & I seem to remember reading they are one of the hardest NPS to keep? Are they completely off base with some or all of these?

Highly doubtful unless you have a lot of live microfauna in your tank. If once a day feedings are the most you can deal with right now, I'd stick with tubastrea, dendrophyllia, balanophyllia, etc. for a while until you can work out a system to feed multiple times throughout the day.

I don't recall ever seeing a company list a coral that needs to be fed throughout the day as such.

There is a line between happy and alive. Could you keep this gorg alive with feeding it heavy cyclop-eeze 2x a day, yes. Would this coral thrive and live many years in your system, feeding it 2x or less a day, that is questionable. As Mike [uhuru] said "stick with tubastrea, dendrophyllia, balanophyllia, etc. for a while until you can work out a system to feed multiple times throughout the day" These non-photosynthetic corals are alot easier to keep before you start getting into non-photosynthetic gorgonians then dendronephthya and so on.

Ya I don't want to just keep some thing alive, I'd want it to grow.

Just got my sps tank stable & looking good a little awhile back. I thought if I could set up a simple nps system that would be great. But looks like it would need to be a complete stand alone system. I can't face another set of pumps, chiller/heater, ATO, & not to mention the frig, & pumps etc. needed for the feeding system, just yet.

Not ever been one that could do a thing half way. So for now I'll just have to be one of the many who tag along read, learn & plan.
