Is my anemone dead???

Hi my LT anemone has been looking like this for about a week now. I'm worried that he is dead , I heard they can really mess up your tank when they die. All my water parameters are great. I usually feed him a piece of silverside every 2 weeks or so. All of my softies/LPS and fish are doing great. Whats going on? I posted a before and after pic. Thanks!

Increase your ph to normal and see if the nem reacts favorably.
Also i would feed smaller foods for now more frequently.

I have heard of some people having negative experiences when feeding silversides to anemones (feeding a bad one causing the anemone to die). Perhaps this is the cause? Your anemone does look to be on its way out, but you will know when he is dead. He will basically fall apart, release a milky substance and will not smell all to pleasant.

I would try to lower your nitrates, but that is not likely the cause of your anemone's situation. Also what is your lighting looking like?

I have dual 65w t5 and dual 65w t5 actinics. But this morning I found the anemone looking like a chunck of white insides falling apart from inside it and just looking like a white chunky blob. I took it out because it looked dead : (
I want to get another because my clowns love playing in it. When I get my water parameters right is there a hardier nem than a LT that would be good for my tank? I'm bummed this nem died and still trying to figure out the cause.

I wouldn't give up. I lost my first GBTA in a similar fashion, but I attribute it to a delay in receiving the shipment. He was in rough shape when I got him, then the clowns overloved him, then I fed him too large a piece of silverside and he died.

The next GBTA I bought was a clone from the local club. It's more than tripled in size in the last four months and is very happy. Sometimes you just get a bad one or it has a rough time.

That said, I'd get your parameters in line and let the tank stabilize before you try again.

I think I lost two anemones due to this. I am on my third and haven't fed it since I got it and I have had it close to a year now, were I only had the other two for only a few weeks.

I would start with a good healthy anemone from your local club next time. Aquaculturted RBTA & GBTA is a good candidate.

I would also check your bulbs or just change them if they are old.

How does the tank smell? I hear this is probably the best indicator of a dead nem; they absolutely reek. Also begin to worry if it detaches and starts floating around.

FWIW, pH of 78 is not "great" water params! ;)

What was your flow like? Did you ever feed your Nem? If you do look for another try a GBTA or a RBTA those are pretty hardy. I have 3 RBTA's right now feed once a month enriched brine shrimp. IMO silversides are not that enriched to feed and some may carry disease which can casue sickness in your nem. Some have good results and some don't.
