Is my anemone dead?

I got my first anemone 2 days ago and it was looking ok yesterday/early today then I fed some mysis shrimp from a syringe and about an hour later deflated a lot and now seems to be getting worse/mouth opening a little but still seems to be pretty firmly stuck to the rock. I just want to know at what point I need to cut my loses and pull him from the tank so he doesn't poison everything. Thanks!

0 nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, ammonia
8.0 pH

Tank up and running for 1 year

Did he eat the shrimp? Anemones have a habit of deflating and looking like that during an excretion phase.

Not an anemone expert, but I often see on here that the first few weeks of acclimation can be stressful for the nem. Also, you might want to stop trying to feed it for a bit. Give it some time to settle in. Not eating for a couple weeks won’t hurt it. Let it do what it wants and find a place that makes it happy.

Yup... pretty common it seems from my own experience and from reading on here... a new nem is very finicky... can't blame it though.. it's whole world just changed. So it's stressed and scared.. so when your try and feed a new nem within the first couple weeks.. they freak out and do this... when I tried to feed mine... all excited and wanting my new nem to be fat and happy like my fish... it did this same thing.. then hid under the rocks..... for about 2 months...

It should be alright...just keep the water good...and acclimate it to your lights..

He's alive!!!! Thanks so much guys for your help. He looked about 10 times worse when I went to bed last night than even the last pic i posted and his mouth was almost completely bulged inside out so I thought for sure he was a goner. I was about 2 seconds away from pulling him from the tank but I'm so glad i didn't because of you guys! Thanks!!

Get used to your anemone looking weird. It will inflate and deflate a lot IME but unless it's melting or rolling around on the sand I wouldn't panic.

Is it a gbta?, from the last picture he looks to be bleached somewhat? Once its acclimmated n looks good, you may want to feed it mysis once a week or biweekly..

I was thinking the same... first pic it was pretty green... now it looks somewhat bleached..

You said the tank has been up and running for a year?

Definitely feed your anemone that should be a given. I feed mine frozen raw shrimp that I buy at the grocery store and thaw out. I cut the nem off a pinky nail size piece. Once every two days but I suppose the frequency depends on how strong your lights are.

Keep an eye on it. As far as I've learned continuous deflation is not normal. If you see it floating around losing grip on the rock then it may be too late.
It may not look great all day long depending on your light schedule but not sure it's mouth wide open is ok.
I had to treat mine and it turned out a success. Now it shrinks a bit when lights are off but it's mouth is tight and goes back to normal when lights come back on.
If it keeps doing that I'd recommend posting in the anemones forum also start reading about treatment and gather the things you'll need to act quickly if needed.
