Is my BTA dying

All things aside...it's a shame that this nem will probably have to die, but for what it's worth I hope you have some luck and it does well in your tank.

i will upload a pic of a gigantea that i had in a 20 gallon breeder for 3 years, and now it is in my AP 24. The trick is to get a healthy specimen and do water changes weekly ( big ones) and you can keep them alive. If you have question about anemones contact someone worthwhile, many people on this forum think they know when they dont. The reason most people are rude on forums is b/c A. They are having marital problems. B. They are impotent or C. They dont have any friends to be rude too, so they take it out on you.

But most importantly:

D) We try to be nice but will be rude to those who are rude to us.

So Chris, just because you just insulted all 145,679+ of us, I will now officially declare you "King of the Poopy Heads".:D

Dude thank you Chris. Yeah I don't know why everyone is going so hostile on my ***. Well can you stop being a smartass with teh cave thing. 6 watts suits every coral well besides the less hardy anemone (NOT BTA) and clams. So why are you people so bitter with your metal halides and bull**** knowledge>?????????????????

I was never rude to you guys????????????????????

I disagree. You've shown that you think that you are right and we are all wrong. Are you smarter than all of us? I'd like to see you prove that.

If you had at least pretended to listen to us, we would've helped you with a smile.

You are definately missing out on this:

Can you cite a source that says that PC lighting is adequate for corals and BTAs? I'm assuming the light you have is Power Compact, but you weren't very clear about the type of lights you have.

Most authorities agree that anemones of any kind will not thrive with lighting of such intensity that any lights less powerful than T5 can provide, and certainly one PC bulb isn't providing enough light to satisfy the needs of the zooxanthellae algae. Yes, supplemental feeding can delay the inevitable demise of the anemone, but it certainly won't work forever.

What happened here, gkimble, is that people who have had success with anemones, who have done the appropriate research, and who are absolutely capable and worthy of giving you advice did just what you asked, gave you advice. You ignored the advice and declared in a rather curt manner how each and every one of those people was wrong simply because it wasn't what you wanted to hear. If you wanted to keep an anemone in a 12g tank with inadequate lighting, why didn't you just go to your friend who's been doing it for two years for advice?

Are you trying to mislead us on purpose, Slakker?

You aren't a slacker by any means.:D Now change your name before everyone starts getting confused.

C'mon gkimble. Look at all the other threads. It's not like we picked your name out of a hat and decided to be mean to you. We're trying to hold out an olive branch to you. Look! I haven't even mentioned your stinky breath yet. Oops. Just kidding. We are glad we have you aboard RC, but can you just give our advice some consideration? That's why we're here after all.

It's got a lot to do with my last name and the fact that in a lot of regards, I am pretty lazy.

But, if I do a saltwater tank, I'm gonna do it right, and if that means doing some homework in the meantime, then I'll do my research. Last thing I want to do is kill stuff just because I wasn't prepared.

Ditto. I've been planning out different tank setups for years. Finally, I've made up my mind and am the farthest I've ever been into setting up a tank for myself.

Have you finally figured out what you want to do, Slakker, or at least thinking really hard about a specific setup? Let me guess...............Something concerning clownfish?

Ok, let me first say I am sorry that I realize that everyone else on this thread has more knowledge. And know I don't have stinky breath. lol That was good. The fact of the matter is that I was asking a question not on " Hey can I kep this anemone in my AP12 with two 27 watt bulbs. one white, one acintic." I was asking if it was normal if it was normal for my anemone to be acting the way it was acting, which it was just producing waste. I took advice from my local fish store because they have proof of a gorgious rbta in the same tank which has been thriving. I was just being defensive because I saw it work and i figured my odds were good as well. I am sorry I usually don't get angry over something like this. I just get upset when people think I am purposely trying to hurt something. I am just captivated by the anemones, and i don't have the money and space to get the lighting and tank size for the anemone. I am a broke college student who has a full schedule that relys on his summer job for his hobbies. I guess I would like to hear you guys agree with me, but come to realize it, its not going to happen . I am sorry I cause all this contraversy.

I'm sorry to hear that you're sad. If you can't afford to keep anemones, why don't you try other things. The reef hobby has an infinite amount of options.:) If you'd like some help, why don't you try telling us what captivates you about anemones.

For example, if you like the symbiotic nature between anemones and clownfish, why don't you try keeping a shrimp goby and a shrimp? In this case, the goby can't dig burrows, and the shrimp can't see. When the shrimp and goby team up, the shrimp digs the burrow while the goby guards. It is very cool.

We will go out of our way to please you. All you need to do is ask politely.:)

ok thank you, Yes I like the clownfish and anemone pair. I am not sad. I have tried torches, forgspawn, xenia, hammerhead corals, and others to try to get my black and white pair to host a coral. Thats why I got the BTA. So what should I do? I don't have enough room for any more fish so teh shrimp goby and pistol are out of the question. I have looked into that. Thank you for the advice.

Now that things have calmed down, I'm not so afraid to post ;) Seriously, you guys are kind of scary sometimes.

gkimble - one of the frustrating parts of this hobby is wanting things you're not ready or set up for, and then seeing someone else do it! There seem to always be exceptions to rules, but because of my cautious nature and respect for the animals and hobby, I usually go with what's most likely to happen, not the appearant exceptions.

Another thing to consider, you said the one in the 12 gal AP was was thriving and splitting. Not all splits are done because the animal is happy. Sometimes corals split out of stress, it's a survival mechanism. I've never seen the tank you're talking about and I have no way of knowing why theirs splits, but it's just something to keep in mind.

Even with success in a situation like this, the nem can quickly outgrow that size tank, and you're back at the begining.

I've heard of people having good luck with toadstool leathers. These can get large too, which gives the clowns more hosting space, leathers don't typically require as much or as intense lighting, and they seem to be able to take the abuse of clowns hosting them.

One rule of thumb (there are many in this hobby) is to always do your own research, and not rely soley on the LFS's information. Sometimes they just don't know any better, and other times they're just trying to make a sale and don't care. I'm not saying that's the case w/ your lfs, but you're likely to run into that at some point.

Good luck

OKAY ZOOMFISH> i get the point... how about you stop responding to my threads if you have such a problem with me... i am only 17 and you must be atleast 2 times my age and you are acting like a 2 yr old... how many times do i have to tell u i used your advice... its my tank im ruining not yours so get over it...
