Is my BTA OK?

I have had this RBTA in my tank for a few weeks and I have periodically noticed this look but not to this extent so I wanted to see if this is a normal state for this species and if not, is there anything I should do? Feed? Adjust light?

57G tank
4 39W T5 bulbs, 2 white, 2 actinic
1.025 salinity

Anemone is about 8-9 inches from light water surface and light is about 5 inches above water. This is where he moved. I tried to place him closer to the light.

Thanks. Do you know what causes the shaft of the tenacles to change colors? Sometimes some of the tenacles have a brown tint. Thanks.

well reading what you said, you said few weeks so im assuming this RBTA is fairly new?
(correct me if im wrong)

and BTA's (or any coral/lps/sps/anem) will look different under different lighting.. so whatever the previous owner/store owner had.. for lighting after it adjusts to your lights, its coloration could start to change because you have different lights (this is from what ive read)
and to me, it looks like they are more greenish looking then brown but im sure it could look different in person

Yes, this is a new RBTA for me. It was under MH lights at the LFS so it is adjusting to different lights. (My lighting is lower than what it was under.) There is some green coloration at times that is low on the tenacle shafts. What should I look for as signs that it is not happy in its environment?

Here is some other info:
I am not feeding often, only about once per week, and when I do it is thawed frozen mysis.

Actinic lights are on 10:00 am - 9:00 pm and white lights are on 11:00 am - 8:00 pm. My bulbs are about 7 months old and I am getting ready to replace the bulbs with ATI bulbs.

Were clowns hosting it when you bought it? Are the clowns you have in your tank hosting it (or attempting to host) now? That could be part if the reason it looks different to you too...I had a Sebae nem for about a year before I added clowns, once they hosed my nem it's tentacles changed in shape from the clowns hosting behavior.

i mean, yours looks happy from what i can tell..


i rarely feed my RBTA's.. they usually catch whatever my fish dont eat..

just keep an eye out on it..

idk the signs of a dieing bta as i havent had 1 die on me yet..
so idk what you should watch out for.. but im still gonna say...
your's looks healthy to me.. and the green in the base, maybe it'll change colors to a Rainbow BTA type coloration..cause of your lighting.. ive seen quite a few bta's that are green base red tips.. they are pretty cool, def give a rainbow look when the tentacles are elongated.

Once my white lights went off and all I had on were my actinics I realized that the base of the tenacles does have a green tint. I think you are right that it is OK, it just looked a bit odd the way it was positioned. Sometimes my Elegance Coral will look different and then a couple of days later it will be back to normal. So I guess false alarm. Sorry for my newbie moment!
