I just picked up two clownfish that came from separate tanks. One is a black ocellaris and one is the typical orange/white. I think the black may be a female. From what I've read so far, clownfish that are put in a tank by themselves tend to turn female. The black one came from her own tiny showcase cubicle from my lfs. The orange one was apart of a group of about 7 other of the same color/species and is no more than 2". The black is maybe 2.5" and still seems to be developing given it's faded orange face.
The owner of the lfs told me that since they are different species (come to find out they are actually the same species, just diff color) that they won't become a mated pair.
I added them to my tank 4 days ago. from the very first minute they have been following each other. They don't separate but for a minute or two. It seems very unlikely to me that they have already "matched" or become a pair.
Starting just now, the larger one is going to the front corner of the tank near the sand bed. I don't wanna say she is "humping" the glass, but she's deliberately bumping into it with her bottom side, kind've attempting to drag her body along the glass while completely sideways. Meanwhile the smaller, orange one stays like 1-2 inches away.
I am new to sw in general, and I realize this doesn't seem normal being that they are so new to my tank yet alone new to each other. What does it seem like to you?
