my ammonia is reading 10 ppm 0 nitrate and nitrite temp 78 all this after 1 week after putting in live rock and live sand in the tank for the first time. yesterday. i put one yellow tail damsel to finish off the cycle and it's still alive.

thanks

no I would say you have maybe a couple weeks left because the ammonia will turn to nitrite then nitrate. I would suspect in a few weeks everything will turn to 0.

If you still have ammonia and 0 nitrites then your cycle is still beginning. Your ammonia should start lowering and the nitrites will begin increasing, then after your trites are gone your nitrates will begin.

yes i mixed salt too but its. still in the bucket. do i have to wait for the cycle to finish and then add it or can i. add it in the middle of the cycle. i just dont wanna hurt the damsel fish. so after i pour the bucket in the tank can i just turn on the big powerhead for more mixing?

How long has the salt water been siting in buckets?

its just salt in the bucket. no water yet

If I were you I would add the rest of the salt you need to the tank to get it around sg, then go on with your cycle.

You can mix the salt up immediately. It shouldn't affect the cycle. You should have done that at the beginning. Oh well. And if you put the damsel in before you made saltwater that's just silly. I find it hard to believe but you have an aquarium started now and if you are serious you need to pick up a book and read it front to back. There is a great one called "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" by Robert Fenner. A lot of pet stores sell it.

If you are getting into saltwater with as little knowledge as you seem to have, you should probably hold off on doing anything besides making saltwater until you read a book.
