Is my sun polyp eating?

Ok i made a Lunar Lander (top of 2 liter bottle with feeding hose)..
I put the lander over the Sun Coral and shoot some food down the hose just to get it to open up.. Once all the heads are open i shoot more food down the hose..

For food im using Cyclop eze, a half block of mysis, and some zoo plankton.

are the polyps supposed to close once they catch something or do they stay open while they eat?

And is this mixture enough to keep them happy? Every head im sure is getting alittle something but each head is not getting a mysis shrimp.

Do you think im feeding the sun polyp correctly?

They will close when they get some food, but usually reopen a little later.
I feed mine a mix of shrimp, scallop, cyclopeez and Mysis Shrimp.
I'll feed a second helping a little while later and pay particular attention to those that may not have gotten enough the first time around.

Shnabbles, yes it sounds like a good diet to feed them, I would feed them whenever they are open and you can get them some food to be sure they are happy healthy and well fed.

I usually would spot feed mine by placing some mysis on a polyp, it will grab it and eat it. If you do not see enough polyps closing on food, you may want to try that.

I actually watched my Sun Polyp eat a Zoa that floated by. It grabbed it and consumed it. Quite a sight.

I think your doing just fine with the diet. I take mine out of the tank an put in a large container and then create a food tornado. Every time I do that (about once a week) the polyps open up huge for a couple of days.

There are baby polyps too so it is growing.

I did that too for about the first two or thee months...It worked great. But now I want them to stick to the live rock so I dont remove them anymore. Thanks

Feeding sounds good. If you ever notice tissue recession I would do like RayMartini said. Put in container and float on top of tank but dont pull coral out of water. Just plop the food in and every 5 min stir the water breifly to resuspend food and do it for about 15 20 min so that all polyps get plenty of food. This is a sure way to get them suckers nice and plump again.

You could also check the sun polyp at night to make sure all polyps are coming out. mine open much more at night than they do during feeding time. I feed mysis, brine, cyclopeeze, zoamax, cromamax, and DT's phytoplankton every other day.
