Is my tank in danger?

Hey Everyone!
I have a 200 gal Oceanic RR tank with the center brace. It is about 6 years old now. Over time with the constant scraping of algae from the front glass especially, razor blades have accidentally caught the silicone seal around the perimeter of the tank. The razorcuts have not come close to the adjacent glass panel (ie. they are not deep). Aside from having a jagged appearance that now gets on my nerves, is my tank in danger of splitting a seam?

Good excuse to tell the wife you need a new tank. I'm going to do that!!!! Or just break the center brace and clamp it.. she will hate the look of the clamp and make you get a new tank.

Dont worry about it. The silicone on the glass has little if anything to do with the structural integrity of a tank.

Well, as you can see from the date of the original question, it has been a while. The tank did not fall to pieces and all seems to be well :)

I would like to take this one step more however...

The silicone on the glass is very ragged and tends to accumulate detritus and algae in the nooks and crannies. It looks unsightly and I am tired of it. My question is this - Can I use a razor blade and cut a straight line down the silicone on the inside of the glass? I plan to stay clear of the actual joint but cut enough to remove the unsightly jagged edge of silicone. I know that Thunnus said it had no real structural role in the tank, but I need to be sure that I can take this course of action and still stay married.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
