Hello, I'm very sad right now, this toadstool was one of my first corals and had grown like crazy thru the years, was my showpiece in my tank. It's part of the family, hate to see it suffering.

About a month ago I notice my tank was cloudy for a couple of days and all my corals seemed bothered, along with multiple anemones. Fish did not seemed bothered too much that I noticed. Could not find any reason for the issue. So Did multiple water changes, ran xtra carbon and tested everything. All seemed ok. After a couple days everything was looking back to normal except my very large toadstool ( like 12" across). Figured it just needed a little more time.
Then I found a shattered 400 watt heater in my sump that I did not know had exploded.
This is the only thing I have found that was out of place. Could the tank of been momentarily electrified from the heater in the sump? Does this sound like a reasonable explanation for the cloudy tank and stressed corals?

NOW for my question.........I moved the toadstool to a temp quarantine tank but seems to be doing worse. It is completely layed out and it shedding skin like crazy, quarantine tank is stinking really bad and there are sections that appear to be rotting away. There seem to be no little polyps sticking up anymore.
Should I just take it out of the tank and give it last rights or maybe cut some small frags off it to see if I can get them to doing anything ?

Never had something like this happen so not sure what to do with it. ANY HELP would be appreciated.

Thanks, Scott

Bab smell is not good

Shedding is ok

I had one close up for 6 weeks and then came back over time.

Mines loves high direct current on top.

Mine was about 8" when it closed, its now about 30" around

Mine was about 8" and it closed up for almost 2 months. It all the sudden opened up and looked great. I'm not sure though about the smelly water. I think quarantining it may have done more damage. Maybe put it back in the display tank to see what happens. Hope he makes it. Good luck

I would suggest fragging sections that still look healthy...... ASAP. There may be a good chance you can save it & re-grow it from the frags. If you leave it as is you will most likely lose the entire coral.

Good luck.
