Is Neptune dropping X10?

We will not be selling X10 components in the near future. The existing controllers will continue to support X10, however, we really recommend that new customers use our direct connect boxes for control.

Any particular reason why? I just bought the AC Jr. and am setting it up with 10 X10 modules. It would be a shame to find out that the X-10 modules are faulty or something like that.

Any comments, Curt?

the DCs are just more reliable in most peoples experiences than the X10s. Any time you can go hard wire vs "wireless/remote control" you will increase reliability. :)

I thought the DC's were "remote control" since the AquaController is sending a signal for the outlet to turn on/off. Who knows... I'm thinking it is more of a marketing thing, and that's fine. As long as Neptune has a solid product (in the DC's), and I believe they do, then why not eliminate the X10 and sell their own product.

The only reason I am using the X10 on my system instead of the DC's is because I currently have an American DJ power strip with 8 switches. I wanted to be able to use X10 but still have the ability to turn things on/off with the manual switch.

If there really is a problem with the X10 modules, please let me know and I'll gladly switch to the DC8.

The DC8 is a power strip with no wireless control. The X10 wireless interface uses radio waves to control the modules. The Icecap electronic MH ballasts have been reported to interfer with the control signals, making use of X10 possibly unreliable.

Scott,

I see in your profile that you're using an Icecap MH ballast. Did I miss that or was I still partying from the holidays? I will accept back the control module if you'd like. Please PM me.

No radio waves are involved...the signal is actually sent through the existing electrical wires in your home.

Too many variations and configurations of people's electrical systems make the overall system unreliable and unpredictable...in some cases.

Some people never have any problems, while others experience chronic malfunctions. All depends on your particular home setup.

I use the X-10 sockets which IME last much longer and are more reliable than the modules. So until Neptune makes a box that will fit in a waterproof J-box I'll be sticking to X-10.

I like the opportunity of X10 to control the lighting of the other tanks in the house, :) and :) to turn some household lights each evening before I get home from work.

Even if Neptune Systems decides to stop selling all X-10 modules, the controllers will still support X-10 control because all the Direct Connect units use this protocol for communication. To remain backward compatible they will need to continue to use the X-10 protocol.

You can still use remote controlled X-10 powerline modules by using the PL513, PSC04 or PSC05 interface as the last device in the RJ11 daisy chain. All modules can be purchased through www.x10.com and other online stores.
