Hope this helps. Mine will arrive tomorrow tuesday. I cant wait.

If you would post here how it turned out. If you got everything, any problems, and how long it took from the time you paid till you received it.

Thanks

BeanAnimal is right...
And I hope he is wrong about my purchase because this is the first time I actually purchased from ebay. Two of my friends bought from them but they are brand new items. And also they did not have any problem with Nikons when they submitted theyre warranty card.

And I will shut up now...

In any case. that 15%off of Dell will be a good deal for you BagedTaco.

I hope your purhcase turns out well. You will love the camera. Like I said, I know nothing about the vendor, so would not venture a comment on way or the other with regards to their honesty or products.

Keep us informed.

Opiy,

I tried to read the link but it doesnt say if its jjust the body as in out of the box? or all bells and whistle is included. I mean the software that goes with it, the battery, etc. etc.

Some stores does not include this and thats why the price is low. Make sure that these are included.

BTW. make sure that the store is also authorized dealer.

Here is mine from Nikon website.
http://www.nikonusa.com/template.php?goingto=wb_search2&cmbCategory=1&cmbGroup=2&productNr=25218

Type 117 for zip code

From what I read on the web site they are an authorized dealer and quoting the site
Condition Brand new, USA Warranty
ALL ITEMS ARE BRAND NEW, FACTORY FRESH AND INCLUDE FULL MANUFACTURERS USA WARRANTY UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED.

And if you look at all of the verifications and certifications and also they are a member of BBB.

I was trying to find the whats in the box also but could not find it. I am sure I have seen it before somewhere on that site. It was just body, body cap, manuel, and thing 1 more thing.

I contacted Wolf Camera local and they sold body only for $549.99 + 9% sales tax. So pretty much $600 and I don't know if that includes a battery or not.

I wish you good luck, i've been in your situation for almost 2 weeks.... nerve wracking, hair pulling, nail biting experience... :(

I know how it feels. I wish you good luck...

Is there any reason you are solely looking to buy a Nikon?
I dont see much of a perk for the Nikons over similarly priced Canons

My g/f's brother has the d70 or d70s, im not sure which. I have played around with it a little but not extensively enough to be able to compare it with my Rebel XT, the only major difference noticable right of the bat was the Nikon's easier to see viewfinder (the image seemed larger inside the eyepiece while trying to shoot) but the Nikon is much heavier.

The Rebel has an 8MP sensor with a 1.6x crop factor while the d70s has a 6.1MP sensor with a 1.5x crop factor....
effectively, a 50mm lens will actually be like an 80mm lens on the Canon and 75mm on the Nikon, I chose the Rebel XT because of the light-weight body and the more sensors packed in should allow better quality crops and zooms on the ol' computer...

Im pretty sure thats how it goes, but I've been wrong before....

Well, he first asked about Nikon. So I just gave hims some comparison in Nikon terms also.

XT is a bit higher in price compared to D50.

Im a nikon guy :)

lighter to some people are not feeling as solid.

And small in terms of physical dimension. Some have problems with the ergonomics of it.

and yes it is 8mp and it is bigger in megapixel but doent mean its better in terms of quality than 6mp.

Im not saying XT is bad. I used to have AE-1 but, it actually boils down to the "feel" and "what you like" factor.

I Dumped the Minolta for the reasons stated above...

This left me with Canon or Nikon.

I chose the Nikon due to their long track record and Lens system. I don't see Nikon changing lens mounts, they never have (other than the automatic features being added).

It was a hard choice... but I liked the feel of the Nikon as well.

Lenses are pretty much universal anymore as long as you have adapters without glass involved, that is one thing i dont like about the canon, is that to use the old manual canon lenses there is a piece of glass in the adapter
i have a zeiss made, contax 50mm, without the (glass-less)adapter yet, but its freakin awesome on the XT... Im just saying, I hurried into a camera purchase not knowing all that much about my options and basically compared the two straight up from the manufacturers, made my choice, and I think i would have still made the same choice, or gone up the ladder a bit to one of canon's higher bodies,

basically, yes it does come down to feel for the user though, most people will tell you to choose bodies that the lenses that you plan on using will work best on for what you want

I think the main reason for me getting the D50 was price because I wanted a SLR but I am not ready to pay close to $1000 for a camera before I know I will stick with it for a long haul. I have seen the pics from the D50 and when I looked at pics from pros it seemed that I always saw Nikon cameras used. I know 2 really good Nature photographers John Cox and John Shaw both use Nikon.

I also don't know all the exact details and what they mean but I knew going with the D50 I couldn't go wrong.

BeanAnimal,

I got the package last Tuesday. Everything is like they said. Its as good as new. Even though it is a refurbished one, everything is very clean. No scratches, no dust, its really clean. Went to San Francisco for spring break vacation and used it for more than 1,000 shots. So far so good, no hick-ups.

Like you said, I am loving it.

Here are some reef sample...

It's really pretty simple.
need high-ISO = D50, otherwise, get the d70. The D70 has too many features above the D50 that allow you to grow without having to buy a new body.

D70s = D70 + bigger LCD screen... and it comes with the new firmware. D70 just download the new firmware and you're set.

Have you heard of being a photo monkey? People who take a shot and then crouch over their LCD screen every time? It's a funny term. But unless you're HUGE on getting a few millimeters more LCD viewing room, a D70 will do just as well as a 70s.

Ding Ding , we have a winner. It took so long and so many anwers to get to it. Also, if you like aquatic photography, I suggest D70 over D50 because of Commander mode. Remote flash is ALMOST a must in aquatic photography. Yeah you can get decent web shots with available light using MH lights but it wont be a nice 8x10 print. Trust me :) Also you need flash for taking photos of fish, because you need much higher (1/250+) shutter speed to capture the still. Remote flash is the only good way to do it.

Oh, and as a Canon user myself, I would still take D70 over 350D, hate that camera. Who in their right mind thought that making a body smaller is a benefit to a DSLR user?? Dumb move Canon. I want mine to be BIGGER and heavier. I added a Grip with two batteries to my 20D to make it more balanced with better lenses. 350D is a toy, and not a serious camera even though it has the serious stuff on the inside.

Thanks for all the input so far :) I guess though with the price difference it would be a better choice to go ahead with the better version but if I keep thinking "Well for just a little bit more" I would end up with the D200 hehe.

Larry, I spent a weekend about 2 weeks ago playing with D200 (friend's copy) and I have to say, it's by far the most amazing piece of equipment out right now, not counting the $3k+ pro bodies. It looks and feels like a pro body and has most of the features at a price that is just absolutely ridiculous.

As a Canon guy, who has a GREAT camera body (20D) I have since then thought several times about selling off my whole Canon bag and going Nikon, ONLY because of the beauty and amazing ergonomics of D200. D70 is a toy comparing to it. Almost any other camera is too.
