Is single or multi controller required for 6100s?

Sorry if this has been asked before but couldn't seem to find it anywhere via a search.

I eventually want to use either 4X6100s or 2X6100s+2X6000s for my 320g tank but don't have the $$ to purchase all at once.

Since there really doesn't seem to be any price breaks vs. buying seperately, I was wanting to find out if I were to purchase a couple of pumps either 6000s or 6100s if you can use them without a controller or can only be run with a controller ?

It would make a difference if I purchase a pair of pumps first or just 1 pump and controller.

Controller is not required. You can however turn down the speed still but prior to attaching a controller which will enable pulsing the speed control must be returned to full power.

Sorry of riding on this thread but I shared the similar query. I just got the 6010 kit and would like to get another 6000 or 6100 later. Does the single controller able to mix two different stream pump?

A single controller can operate 2 pumps with the branch adapter accesory.
