Is skimming nessesary in a 24g nano?

SaltyESQ did you have to remove you lid to put the skimmer on or do u have the MH model?
I also have questions regarding 24 gallon aqua owners on this thread. Do you use the bio balls? What model lights/mods? HOB filter? and is this one possible with a lid still?
I plan on buying one of these for my first nano when i go to college in september just making sure i do ALOT of research b4 i even start buying anything.

I have gotten a VISI-Therm Skimmer in my chamber hood closes and works like a charm

pictures? let's see the VISI-therm skimmer in the back of your tank!

I took the hinges off the hood & cut a notch out to accomodate the aquaC, not pretty but it works! Replaced the pump with 2 maxijet 900's, one hooked up to a spraybar return & one connected to a bulkhead fitting in the stock hole provided. The 900's add good flow without too much heat. I assembled a Y with loc-line fittings and screwed into the bulkhead for an adjustable return flow. Take the balls out, they end up adding nitrates. I put in a chemi-pure bag. With the aquaC I notice positive changes daily in the rock & corals.

I under estimated my tank's ability to filter itself ... nowadays my skimmer doesn't even pull out much. A good DSB and as much LR and you can get away without skimming ... no water change's only water top-off!

Hey Choc-
but how many fish do you have? and how many corals? I agree that the LR does a great job along with the LSB but if any disasters strike...you're gonna have some esplaning to do!
I tend to like to overload my tank with livestock and just like that insurance that the skimmer is there making my water pristine.
