I'm wondering if the added expense is worth it for a larger 8' long tank vs standard float glass. It's adding quite a bit to the quotes I've gotten so I want to see what everyone thinks.
My 800 has 3/4 glass looks crystal clear. I don't have low iron glass on it people look at it and think its acrylic. But thats my opinion save your money for more important things like lights..
I think it depends on how particular you are about how things look. If you're really worried about clarity, you should probably go with acrylic anyway.
When I've talked to my glass manufacturer he said the only time people can really tell the difference is when looking down the glass on its edge. He said looking through the face of it is practically indecernable.
One way to look at this is the same way you buy a tv and one of the most important things to remember. Once you have it at home and setup, you wont have the "higher end" set sitting next to it to do a side by side comparison. Save you're money and buy the misses something pretty (like a jebao gyre heeh)
I have a starphire tank. Yes you can tell the difference. No it is not that noticeable. The tank has a starphire front and regular sides. There is a very slight tint or shading looking from the sides. If they weren't side by side I don't think you would be able to tell. Keeping your water clear and the glass wiped would have a much bigger impact
Wow, I am glad I asked and thanks for all the replies. You guys just validated all my concerns and saved me some $$$!! (Which I can spend on something else!! )
Now I can get to ordering the tank and starting a build thread!! :bounce3:
Starfireglass glass seems to scratch a little easier than regular glass, from my experience...Too! I am always trying to be extra careful when cleaning the inner glass surface with my magnet, without accidentally putting one in. I'm trying to avoid putting one dead centre in the front .
Perhaps it just shows the scratches better than regular glass.
Get the tunze care magnet scraper. No worrying about sand. It holds to 3/4", not the greatest, but still holds. Now I don't worry cuz sand can't get in between anything
