Hi...

I'm finishing cycling now ...

Already have a fish list... Please help me with that,, i have a 85 g reef tank...

3 x Cardinal Pijama (Cardinal orbicularis) Indopacific
5 x Green Chromis (Chromis viridis)
1 x Sailfin Tang (Zebrassoma veliferum)
1 x Purple Tang (Zebrassoma xanthurus)-Red Sea
1 x Coral Beauty Angel (Centropyge bispinosus)-Tonga
1 x Mandarin Spotted Goby (Synchiropus picturatus)
1 x Tomato Clown (Amphiprion frenatus)

Are they fine???

Should they be put in specific order???

Thanks

You can keep any thing you want in your tank?

You need to put down demensions and equipment to see if you can handle the Bioload?

My 2 cents
sail fin will get to big
the purple tang questanable

Maybe a yellow or a kole tang

Both Tangs will grow too large, especially the Sailfin..A Kole Tang would be more appropriate

Always add most aggresive fish last...On that list [without the Tangs] The last to go in would be either Tomato Clown or the Coral Beauty

Chromis are hard to keep in a school there was a thread going around that succes rates for them not killing each other off was very low I also have had this problem

I have a 75 gallon heres my stocking list and have a CS8-2+ Euroreef skimmer

1 gramma
1 longfin fairy
pair of percs
and 1 of many chromis tryed
I would say 5-8 fish dependent on fish size

The green chromis will certainly be a problem??? I've seen lots of tanks with plenty of then...

If so, what school fish can I add to my tank ??

Yep....The Chromis will begin to kill each other, starting with the smallest and weakest first..

As far as your Cardinals, probably best to keep an even number..I am not sure about the Pajama Cardinals but the Bangii's will pair up and kill the third fish

As far as a 'school' of fish, your tank is too small for Anthias. Neon Gobies can be kept in groups and are small.

Another suggestion [more so if you left the cardinals out] would be a Dottyback..Some are extremely mean, but the tank raised seem to be a little less aggressive..I have heard you can keep two Purple Dottybacks in the same tank..These are beautiful fish and one of the least aggressive of the Dottybacks

If you don't care for those, a Candy Hogfish is also a pretty fish. I love mine:)

A smaller Hawkfish [they may eat shrimp]

Fairy Wrasses are pretty [Just so you know, Dottybacks and Wrasses, including the Hogfish, are not compatible]

Lots of possibilities for your tank

In my 75 I have
A Hawaiian Flame Angel
2- Ocellaris Clowns
an Arc eye Hawkfish
And a very peaceful Blue Devil Damsil

I disagree about pajama cardinals- they are far moe tolarant than Bangaii cardinals- which would certainly apply to your aggressiveness comment. I have seen big groups of pajama with one another.

Threadfin cardinals have a better chance of schooling than any of the others mentioned.

As an alternative to the kole, check out the tomini tang. Pretty, and much more commonly available than they used to be.

Pairs of clowns are always more interesting, IMO, than single specimens. They are easy to pair up also. Tomatoes can get big and mean though. Just be aware.

Also, depending on the species, anthias can be kept singly or in pairs, and would certainly do just fine in an 85g (with respect to physical size). Make sure you have proper filtration for these fish though.

I agree with BTTRFLYGRL that a pair of orchid pseudochromis would be really pretty. Alternatively, how about a royal gramma?

i've posted this a few times before but my 10 chromis show almost no aggression at all. can't think of an easier to keep schooling fish for a small newly set up tank.

Im suprised no one mentioned the mandarin. This fish can be a very picky eater, most starve to death. They should only be added to a fully established tank. That has been running for more than 6 months (most people say longer). They need ALOT of live rock!!!!! Bare minimum of 75lbs. This one is on my wishlist as well. Im plannng on waiting a year before adding one. These are great fish, and the longer you wait the better chance the fish will have of survinig. Please research this species thoroughly?

Well...

So many suggestions... Thanks,,,

So what would be better ... A school of pijamas or a green chromis school ????

I personally think Pajama Cardinals are the dumbest looking fish and would never add them to my tank, just my opinion. I would also skip out on the Mandarin as they need a very established tank and tons of rock to survive on.
