Is the Linckia blue Sea Star really reef safe? Thinking about putting one or two in my tank to help clean up the detrius in my sand bed. Also to give some color. I have various corals, zoas, mushrooms, leathers and other LPS. What do you think about putting it in my tank and it not eating or damaging anything in my tank.

thanks

Go for it. I have an orange, my buddy has a blue and orange with zero problems. I know the orange cleaned my rock of all sponges. My buddy grows yellow sponge in his fuge to feed them.

Thanks, i see its reef safe but just wanted to make sure with everyone.Think it will bring some nice color to my tank. I hope it works out. Do you know if the blue eats sponges also?

You might want to do a quick search on RC about them. They are reef safe but dont last very long in our tanks. Then end up starving to death. If you look at all the people who have had them they dont last more then a few months. In the end it is up to you but I would do some more searching before buying. There are a lot of other things that are better for our tanks that will clean your sand for you. Good luck

The orange linkia I have has lasted 7months in my 90g mixed reef and behaves the exact and looks exactly the way he did when he was introduced. My friend's are over a year. His blue will actually eat frozen mysis. They are I would classify as "difficult" and need to be given the right food and a stable environment. And remember don't expose them to air. Acclaimate them very slowly. The are rarely on the sand, mine is always looking through the rock for sponge or climbing on the glass.

thanks guys, ended up finding a nice size serpent star at my LFS. Here in Trinidad we are sometimes limited. We can get any fish, coral or inverts but its just a bit costly. I'm still waiting on him to bring my nassarius and cerith snails for my tank to keep my sand bed clean. He says he's having problems getting them shipped.

I think you went the better way for cleaning the sand bed with the serpent star and nassarius they do a good job in my tank and should do good with yours when you are able to get them.

I also have a serpent star, sand sifter, and red brittle. The serpent star is a creepy little critter, does a good job cleaning, unfortunately I rarely get to see him during day time. He always hides in the rock during the day.

i have a orange linckia...but on the weekend i put a blue linckia in. it ran and attached to the rock behind my torch corals, but now i can't find it for the life of me? i have a minimal rock work structure and it was of decent size; they don't really go in the sand do they? my orange one is always on the glass.
