Hi,

I was wondering if there is much of a market for selling custom made acrylic nano reef tanks? Between 3 to 6 gal in size?

Also what kind of features do you all like in nano reef tanks?Do you like them drilled for bulk heads, or built with compartments in the back for the pump, skimmer, cheto algaea etc.?

thanks for the insight

There was a few years ago but now there's a few vendors our there that sell full systems like biocube and jbj etc. If you can match the quality but for a lower price then it might be worth it.

For 3-6 gallons, why not use glass? IMHO, there's more room for growth in the 15-30 gallon range. There are problems with existing all-in-ones -- leaks unexpectedly (jbj), average lighting (red sea), acrylic-only (new finnex), etc. If you offer flexibility for different types of retro lighting within an attractive canopy, generous compartments to accommodate a good skimmer (Tunze), refugium, and plumbing for multiple returns, you would develop a good following. You might also offer the option to drill the back compartment for people who want to plumb into a sump. Start with a good design that could be easily tailored to suit anyone's needs.

any pics of your current work?

start by developing a tank, crunching the numbers, and showing the design and its cost. the reaction to a real product will be your most acurate guage of interest.

Thanks for the comments and ideas, I have yet to build one of my acrylic aqauriums, but I have built a glass aquarium a few years ago. I bought some cell casted arcylic a few months ago and was waiting until i hade my saw so I could get started.

I could use glass, but I think I would like working with acrylic better since I can drill it and cut it easier and it is also lighter to ship.

I probably will do two tank models, one with the compartments in the back, and the other drilled.

No acrylic nano tanks for me..... with such limited space to work in, it will just get too scratched and the weight advantage of acrylic is mute. Glass is is a much better option.
