is there a way to secure the controller to be safe while on a public network?

i want to give my profilux a public hostname (via dyndns.org for example) in order to access it remotely.

is there a way to protect it with a username and password to make sure that if someone finds out my hostname that they can't mess with my settings?

thanks!

you can set a pin # from the extra>PIN menu. I would not called this a safe way but it is possible and better then having the device wide open.

Best approach is to place it is inside your network and to buy a small vpn appliance or make one using the 1000 of software available online.

you also can change the port, to a non-standard one and add the pin feature that boboxx as told you about.

changing the port is not really adding any security... a simple port scann will reveail that in about 30 sec :p

But it is nice to be able to change it to a different port if your internet provider is blocking the required port.

best way: use Private network/VPN
quick and dirty : use PIN
