is there a way to stop amphipods from munching down?

Get a fish that eats amphipods. I would give you a suggestion but I'm not 100% sure and don't want to steer you in the wrong direction.

6 line wrasse will take down some amphipods and is a great fish for the reef tank.

since when have amphipods been a zoa predator? I would check to make sure you have something else like zoa eating nudi's or even a zoa eating spider (rare, but a possibility). To play devil's advocate I've got about 5 different colonies in my 7 gallon which is packed with amphipods and they have never caused a problem with corals.

There are amphipods that do eat zoanthids. Not all do, just some.There are a couple threads here that go into that.

There are a few fish that do eat them. Most seem to be different wrasses.
I use a mellenarus wrasse.

Thanks for the tips guys. I am 100% sure I dont have spiders or nudis. I did have a little algae problem and iwas able to dip and recover a colony.

It has odd white spots that look like part of the flesh though. Could they be something weakning the polyps making them available to eat?

i have had zero problems with pods and my zoas. and i just added a mandarin a couple of weeks ago, and now i see about 2 pods/day. maybe just buy a mandarin/wrasse etc. they are cool fish, with alot of personality, and will keep the pod population in check. Sorry i cant be of much help...

Ficklefins that looks very similar. I am a little distraught as to the zoas growing on rocks low in my tank I can't remove as easy as a frag though

I can try a trip on a loose frag that has it. I wonder if i can find that medicine locally in any pet shop like a petsmart on my way home .. lugols seemed to help but the pox still seems there. Ironic it shows up at the same time of year the article mentioned, too

I found some on some of my new batch of zoos I got from a fragswap here in the bayarea. Just cut them out...
