Is there any reason for me NOT to get a clam?

Hi All,

There is a 5 in crocea that I am looking at - but will my tank be a good home for it? The research I've done so far looks like I may have one problem . . .
It is currently growing under PC lights (with supplementary phytoplankton).

My tank:
90g (including the H2O in the sump total 100+g)
Tek light T5s, 4x54w, but overdriven by IC ballast to about 80w ea. (320w+/-)
3" sand bed
over 150# live rock
inhabitants:
2 cleaner shrimp,
a couple dozen blue leg hermits, a few pagoo hermits,
one urchin,
detritus snails - 4 nassarius & 6 bumblebee,
algae snails - several astrea & cerith
fish (6):
large yellow tang
1 pair ocellaris clowns
yellow watchman goby
6-line wrasse
lg mandarin dragonet
one long tentacled anemone
assorted mushrooms, polyps, and zoos,
xenia
3 octocorals
3 montis
1 acro
1 unidentified SPS
2 frogspawn
1 cabbage coral
1 flame scallop (an accidental acquisition - long story)

Gosh - when I read the list, it seems like alot! I am also 'feening' after a small school of chromis.

I have a lot of flow - return pump rated @960 gph (minus 4ft head & a couple of 90s) and 2 powerheads rated at 270 gph ea. I have to keep the return pump throttled down to keep it from overflowing the tank, 'cause it outpumps the overflow. I think I will need to find a lower flow area for the clam, 'cause I read that they don't like to have their tissues blown around.

My iodine tends to run a little high (consistently above 0.2ppm by the Salifert test kit) & I read that clams are sensitive to iodine. I am not sure how to bring it down. Water changes don't seem to do it & I suspect there may be iodine (listed as other?) in one or more of the supplements I use. My present inhabitants don't seem to be bothered by the iodine levels.

Anyone with clam experience know if I am going to run into problems? Would my iodine be detrimental?

Thanks!

From what Ive heard , iodine tests can be slightly to very inacurate. Im not a clam expert but your tank seems from my knowledge to be ok, and dont notice any potential aggressors in your line up,not to sure bout your six line, Id imagine a good idea would be to make sure theyre not going to be equal in size anytime soon if its anything like my yellow choris wrasse:)
