Is this a Cooper's anthias?

Angel*Fish

cats and large squashes
Sorry, these photos are the best I have. They are taken under 14,000k + 440 VHO - the color is close to accurate. I have been calling it a Cooper's, but isn't a Cooper's supposed to have at least a hint of a red bar on the side?

The one on the far side looks like my male Dispar Anthias. It's quite orangy/yellow on the body with the red fin on the top.

I found this pic of a male cooper's. With anthias you will see some variations in the male..some are supermale, age plays a role, as well as nutrition, and I believe how many females are kept with it.

maybe a male lyretail
I see how you could think that - sorry to not have a better photo. It's not a squammi though

Thanks tangreef - you are very correct ---that's one of my adorable dispars in there, too. I appreciate any help - but I guess I should have mentioned it's the pink one in the middle..sorry

Well if that's a Cooper's then mine's a Cooper's I guess. I just thought they had to show a red bar. What a pretty fish, BTW! I would have appreciated that eye candy even if it was totally irrelevant to the thread!

Thanks that helps!

Your remark about different coloring in males as opposed to supermales was interesting. If you could elaborate some maybe? Are you saying that with 2 males present only the dominant one reaches the full blown male color?

I just know I have had supermale anthias come in, and ones that are what you would just call a male. You can see the same thing occur with some wrasses as well. It may be that one will be dominant..healthier..more colorful, thus attracting a harem. And then passing those good strong genes onto the offspring. A good example is squarebacks..some are simple in coloration, and some would blow you away they have so much more color and patterns.
