ive had this piece of live rock for about 6 months now and there has always been this red blotch on it. I always thought it was coraline algae but as its grown significantly in the past month its taken on a shape with finger like branches stemming from the rock.some afternoons when i come home from work the tips of those finger like stems appear to be "open" and have a fleck of white showing about the size of a pin head. anyway if anyone has any cluue what this could be i would be greatly appreciative.

Check at night with a flash light. See if the yellowish dots have expanded and are polyps. If yes, then it is probably a non-photosynthetic, like a chili. I have one that looks almost identical to yours.
