Is this a Desjardini Tang?

I just purchased a salfin tang from a person that is getting out of the hobby, cracked tank forced him to put his fish in other tanks. He listed it as a Desjardini. However, when I wen to pick up the fish it was in a holding tank and pretty dark, so it was hard to see. I questioned the seller though on whether it was really a Desjardini or a regular Salfin Tang. He assured me that it was a Desjardin and that the tank was dark and the fish had just been moved and wasn't happy. Therefore, the darker color.

The good news is that he's eating and seems healthy. His color also lightens. But he doesn't have the light blue body, nor freckles on his belly. I have posted a picture of the tang in my gallery. I'd be interested in knowing if I have really do have a Desjardini or a regular Salfin Tang.

Sorry, But I disagree. I have owned both and currently have the desjardini after giving away the other sailfin. The pattern is that of the regular sailfin. It does not translate into the dorsal or pectoral fins as a desjardini does. The broad dark stripes with the orange stripes are too broad and regular. In a desjardini the pattern in thinner and appears as light, dark and orange in concert as opposed to the heavily dark patern of the regular sailfin. After careful examination of the fish you have the zebramosa type sailfin. Go to liveaquaria.com and compare the two.

Hard to tell. I'd say , no.

very confused at this point as to the type of fish it is a lot of people are saying yes and a lot are saying no. the person who i bought it from said it was a desjardini.

Well...here's a better question for ya then. Would it matter to you if it was or wasn't? Did you pay more for it, and was the price you paid below market/LFS pricing? Are you trying to find out so in the future when you sell it, you can sell it as a Desjardini or not? I think if it's a healthy fish, and you're happy w/ it, then just let it be.

yah just curious got a really good price on it desjardini or not and am happy with it. also not plannig to sell it.

I have a normal sailfin and it doesn't look too much like mine. I also had a small desjardin in the past and it had a much more spotted appearance. I always thought the spots were the main difference, but never researched it.
