is this a good deal

A friend of mine is selling a system that I'm considering for my first reef tank. It's a setup that was designed by a lfs for her for $ 3800. It is 6 months old and she is willing to take half of what she paid for it. Knowing her, it is in mint condition, though I haven't seen it yet.

80 gal Perfecto Bow Front drilled with corner overflow
Sump with Bio Balls, plumbing and pump
heater
battery powered backup bubbler
2 powerjets
various chemistry
some kind of pretty hardwood cabinet
48" coralife aquapro 2x250 w 10000K MH and 2x96w true actinic and led

I will still need to add top off system, RO and I'm not sure if a skimmer will fit in the sump so I may need to add new sump and skimmer.

Thanks

I think you can bye brand new for $1900 thats my opinion if it had a good skimmer , liverock etc it would be worth it . I think its worth maybe a $1000.

I would pay $500-600 for that unless the stand is furniture grade made from actual cherry wood in which case I would go as high as $800.

Really? The light itself is $900 new. Hmm, more opinions?

in my opinion the light are the most expensive part of a tank if your going big sometimes lights cost more then the actual setup. so paveking1 is giving a pretty logical explanation. just my 2 sence i mean if its only got a scratch or two then sure i'd go for it but honestly it all depends on you and what you want think about if you want to spend alot cause the rest of it to get that sized tank setup is probably going to be around another 500 bucks for LR and LS if your going that route. always plan ahead so you dont get caught up in a money pit.

money pit is right! I'm learning that and I haven't spent a dime yet. Well, I appreciate your opinions, since you've all be in this for a while. The light, the stand (furniture grade) and the tank are the most expensive parts of this setup. New they are:

Tank $600 at lfs
Stand $ 500 my guess
Light $ 900-1200

That's $2000 new

It's all subjective I guess. If you think "used" means 50% off original then $ 1000 would be appropriate for this setup. Thanks for your opinions-I just wanted to know what you all would pay for this set up.

honestly if i had $1000 bucks i wouldnt mind buying it at all it sounds to be a good setup so if you have to money and you really like the tank then i recomend you go for it. just always keep in mind my little rule of thumb if you estimate the cost of somthing always multiply it by 2 for safe measures cause there will always be other thing you should or have to get. good luck with everything and be sure to post a build thread!

Sounds like a nice setup and only six months old, I guess it might be worth $1000.

Make the best deal you can and then do a build thread here :)
