Is this a good deal?

I have found someone selling a used 55 gallon aquarium with a stand and canopy for $200 canadian. Is this a good deal? I wont be making a reef out of it, more than likely it will be either freshwater or an undulate trigger tank, so the lighting in the canopy is not important to me. What do you think?

I just got a 150gal, with stand, wet/dry(which will most likely go), two powerheads(can't remember the name, they're in the other room), 48" T5, 4 bulb(2-10,000, 2-actinics), 100lbs of rock(dry, now), all plumbing, and a few little extras, for $500. So I think that you should be ale to find a little better deal on a 55gal with stand. Just keep looking around. I've seen a lot of big tanks(55-150) ranging from $50-$700.

I don't know Canada's tank market, but I think you can find a better deal. Maybe half that.

You could get a new 55 and DIY a basic stand (probably far surperior to the one your looking at) for about $100. Give or take a buck or 2. If you really know how to maximize material, you could build your canopy with the scraps from the stand.

If you are doing a reef I would not recommend a 55 at all. they are just to narrow to really rockscape anything nice. Get a tank that is at least 18" deep and if you can do anything deeper you will be very pleased you did so. I would recommend a 50, 65, in 3 ft or a 75 or a 90 in 4ft. good luck

I saw a brand new 70 gal stand canopy and tank for 300 bucks us at pet co. Now I know its pet co but still 300 bucks, that aint bad

He had mentioned in his post that he isn't doing a reef...
So a 55 for a trigger tank should be alright. The price doesn't seem that bad, depending on what it comes with. I agree that you can do better though, and DIY stands are a way better option, price and financially speaking.

I bought a brand new 55 and stand for about $220 USD. I don't know what the exchange rate to Canadian currency is right now, but I'm thinkg you can get a better deal
