is this a good find or should I keep looking?

I recently found a guy locally selling his aquarium.

For $300, I'd get the following items:

90 gallon tank with stand
(2) emporer 400 HOB filters
(1) Coralife Metal Halide light fixture

would this be a good set up for the price? I think I am after a 90 gallon tank (which this is)

Depends on the condition of the tank / stand. Honestly the HOB filter wouldnt be useful if it were my tank. The MH fixture sure would nice. Not a bad deal tho

I'd defiantly say not a bad deal you can add a sump and just add the filter to the sump just to add to your filtration

i thought that LR acted as a filter.......do i still need HOB's along with LR? forgive me for my rookie question. I am still reading and learning.........still at step 1

HOB works but a Protein Skimmer is the more common method. I find HOB to be nitrate factorys unless rinsed alot. LR does work as a filter for ammonia and nitrites. Not actual sediment and detrius.

Do you plan on running a sump? If you want a sump and the tank is undrilled I would keep looking. The HOB filters probably won't be too useful for you in the long run.

$300 for a 90 and stand in good shape isn't a bad price IMO. You could always drill it yourself for an overflow (surprisingly not hard) and add the sump yourself.

i am still in the reading learning stage about the sump option........right now, it's a "not sure"
