is this a new club?

is this anew club spun from those who want a different club experience in Nashville, or just an open forum for folks in Nashville?

Nah, not a new club. Just mainly for any reefer in the Nashville area. The forum got closed and it was finally reopened with the new name. I won't even get into why it was closed.

I completely understand, and I read the posts. Maybe it is time for an alternative to MTRC in Nashville? Seems everything is springhill and south now.

Lol, I know what you mean. It seems like every meeting is an hour and a half away on a Sunday lately. There used to be meetings in Bellevue and Nashville quite often. Now even the store on this side of town has moved away.

This is entirely untrue. Please reach out to a club member for info before posting comments like this. Out last meeting on 12-18-2011 was in Nashville, about 3 miles from Titans Stadium. Could not be any closer to the heart of Nashville.

Hey Rick.

One out of many does not make it seem any less to those of us north of spring hill. No one is bashing anything here, so please don't read it that way..it would just be nice for those who want more things up here than 1 meeting. I am still a member..so I don't need to reach out to anyone.:-) I read the forums both public and private for MTRC, so am aware of what happenings are ongoing.

Some of us may want to get together up here, as those who wanted to down there did last year. Nothing wrong in that.

Again, smileys here as no one is bashing anything.

I hope you are doing well, and that your holidays are joyful.

Merry xmas

I'll just say that I will drive an hour to go to a meeting no problem. It's only once a month, no big deal. I think some folks just have different priorities, and various responsibilities that makes it hard to make it on a regular basis, and then others are just lazy. :)

I would be one of those ones that has a lot on my plate. I hope to have a meeting at my house this upcomming year. I am in West Nashville. I also hope to frag that piece for dowtish tomorrow. perhaps later this upcomming week we can trade out.

Unfortunately we are compromised of a broad range of individuals from different areas. Meetings are open to anyone who wants to host, in any area. I am very glad u keep up with the forums, but as a club member, that is only part of being a member. I hope u find others in your area to meet with, as we encourage this. Its all about the hobby and not anything else. Happy Reefing & Merry Christmas...

Could not have said it better myself. On average I drive 1 to 1.5 hrs to the meetings. Never hear me complain, and I bring 2 kids and a wife :).

I am fragging today....i swear:fun2:

I don't think anything bad was meant by the comments. It just seems that the club in general has moved farther south. I used to make it to every meeting when the club started and then things changed and I almost lost interest in reefkeeping in general. I am getting serious about it again but other things seem to get into the way of making a meeting. I really don't have anything against driving unless the meeting is late on Sunday and I have to get up early the next morning.

No Mike, as this started as a friendly conversation nothing was meant by it. I made every meeting for two years, volunteered as a board member, scrambled for the previous board when the club had a discussion that seemed at impasse with RC for awhile, paid money out of my pocket for things for the club itself...I have done more than my fair share to be a member, and for the membership as well.

The drive has to be worth it though....my time is my most valuable commodity, and I spend a good portion of it serving others in the community of Nashville as a whole.

Over this last year I donated a tank to a very poor school in East Nashville and sparked interest in chemistry, Biology, and Environmental science to over one hundred at risk kids, simply by allowing them the opportunity to discover something they would otherwise never had had the chance...and it was interesting to them because it isn't something they were trying to read and understand in a book (which their actual education level was sub par to do), but to see the results an understand why because of what the hands on experience and discussion gave them.

That was very rewarding for me. One of the main reasons I joined the club, was for the community part. It doesn't seem to be an area of interest for any club members, so I spent my time where I saw it have the most beneficial impact.

The amount of exposure, and outreached was amazing, and I am continuing my efforts again this upcoming year. Hopefully expanding to McGavoc High school next.

Im no saint, and hopefully my efforts help me keep fro going to he** in a bucket LOL

Happy reefing, whatever peoples desires are.

Ahh the good ol days! Pitchers of Margaritas! Mimi's cookies... I had a blast at those meetings ...

Long time no see Mike hope all your little "frags" are doing well.

Wow, how are you doing? Haven't seen you around in a long time. You still have a tank?

The human frags are doing well. The oldest one has become obsessed with fish. He is constantly asking me if we will ever set up a new tank so he can have a new fish he can't have now. :)

I am basically restarting my tank now. I lost pretty much everything over the last few years due to different problems. I haven't been to a reef club meeting in forever but maybe I can make it to the Saturday one.

I've been good. I don't have a tank up at the moment. The wife and I just moved to Old Hickroy from Bowling Green so i ended up taking down my tanks. I am setting up a new tank ... just not sure how i want to go. I am getting alot of pressure from SWMBO to set up another reef.
