Is this a NPS gorg?

If you don't mind my asking, where'd you get it? I would love to get a frag of Rumphella, but I've never found it available anywhere.

I got it at a LFS. I haven't seen one before, but I admit I haven't really looked for one before either.

Looks to me to be Acalycigorgia sp. Better known as the Blue Berry Gorg. There is a lot of information about it. If you just google Blueberry Gorg you will have lots of reading to do.

Slapshot. Thanks for the reply. That was my original thought as to identification as well, however, Ive never seen an acalycigorgia with a blue rind like that. Most come in a tan color with the uncommon exceptions being a darker orange ... ?

Any thoughts ?

the Acanthogorgias is gorgonias somewhat difficultly to support, the colors can be yellow, orange, pink. red or dark purple.
Colonies are often multicoloured, and the colour of the polyps may contrast tuo that of the coenenchyme.

are azooxanthellate.

the sclerite asrchitecture in this group is growth form and colour, from different parts of the wprld, may have sclerites that show little difference in size and shape. Many species of Acanthogorgia, in wich the polyp sclerites are so short that there is little or no projecting crown, erroneously appear the literature under the name Acalycigorgia (Kukenthal, 1919). Acalycigorgia is actually a synonym of Acanthogorgia, and most species referred to the former should be called Acanthogorgia.

Yep, I know what you mean but I have seen them like that before. On the good side when they open they are spectacular with the blue in blue. The bad news is, well you know their record of survivability.

Great, thank you. I ordered it. I like some variety in my photosynthetic gorgs :D

Link doesn't work.

My gorg will be here on wednesday. I love them... they make the tank look so "reefy" :)
