Is this a type of xenia??

A friend gave me some of this. It was taking over his tank. I have three small peices of it, but I'm keeping them off of any large display rocks, as I'm afraid that it'll cover them.

I'm thinking that I want to get rid of it, but I'm not sure what it is or what to do with it.

Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks
Wayne

Looks like Anthellia. Pretty much the same as xenia as far as care goes. IMO a little slower grower, but not much. It will spread but is easily trimmed. Looks cool in a large colony swaying in the flow but I am partial to soft corals though.

In the right conditions it can grow faster than xeina and can die off just as fast. Very nice coral that is great to fill in between larger corals. Might be able to take over some SPS but I've never had a problem with keeping it with other softs and LPS corals.

thanks for the ID. it does look cool swaying with the current, but since I only have a 29 gal biocube, I think I'll see if my LFS will take it. If anyone lives.in eastern NC and wants it for free - it's yours.
