Is this an SPS or an LPS?

It has the 'larger' polyps of an LPS but the same branching growth pattern of an SPS. This is just as I was adding it to my tank, now that it's showing more polyp extension its much more fat and moves really nice with the flow.

This frag is about three inches, if you need a figure to compare to.

Hydnophora maybe? But the polyps seem different.

It's a blue hydnopora. It's not seen very often I know a couple of people that have it. Make sure to give it space it has long sweepers and it will attack and kill corals around it. Nice find!!!

A lot of googling yielded that this is a fairly rare coral and quite beautiful once it makes a nice colony. Pretty excited. Thanks for all the positive ID's folks!

it is a SPS stoney

hynophora rigida or grandis (horn coral)
its a pretty common coral that stings and kills just about anything it touches

I chopped my colony up and sold close to 100 frags over the years

I have a pink one which is harder to find but easy coral to keep

hit with tons of flow and will double in size quick

Iahve mine 12 inches away from a tunze 6305 and has doubled in 3 months
