This is happening on a number on my sps. I contributed it to an alk swing. But it's not just the tips, only the top surface facing the light stn's.

If the levels are correct and the alk is staying constant raise the light an inch or two over the next week and see if it improves...

Unless its alk burn. Nutrient levels wouldnt affect just tips and or the top like I see on that one branch. what bulbs are you using?

okay so... lights dont seem to be much of an issue...

Lights: Check
Alk: Check
Stock: ????

Do you have anything that could be using the tips as a late night snack?

Melanarus wrasse, yellow tang, bicolor Blenny, bangaih cardinal, diamond goby, lyretail anthias.

I also have a 30 gallon frag tank plumbed into this tank

You have me stumped... I would be sitting in front of the tank all night looking for a hidden something or another to poke its head out... Is this the only coral that is doing this?

It started with one tenuis then my tri color then my SS now my milli. I've got 10 other corals doing fine... Btw everything dosed is Randy's recipe via ghl 4 head doser.

I thought it may have been the bicolor or the yellow tang nipping... It's bumming me out cuz I don't know the issue. Tanks been up for 2 years doing great!!! Crazy growth no I get no growth and crap color....

I originally thought it was phosphate or nitrate do threw in some gfo and carbon and everything has just progressively gotten worse.

I just got home from work, corals look worse. I did notice it is only the corals up high. All mid level and sand level sps are doing better. Could I have stripped my water so clean my light got so bright and fried these guys?

How much gfo/carbon did you use? I once OD'ed on gfo/carbon and things started to turn south in a day. Had to quickly take it out to save some of my sps.

What's your current parameters now?

Alk- 8.4 colorimeter
Cal- 500
Mag- 1350
Phosphate- 0
Nitrate- 0

But I have a green cyano like bacteria on my sand. This tells me I've still got nutrients present.

Hmm... sounds like something I'm going through right now. I resorted to sugar dosing but I can't tell if that's working or not...

I have skimmed way too much for too long and stripped my water clean but when ever the corals would lighten it would be the whole thing. Not just tips like yours. I am still leaning to the lights. How long is your photo period?

9 hours. Dawn t5 12:00-9:00
Day light t5 1:30 to 530

The entire coral has lightened up. The tips are loosing tissue while the rest lightens up until the tissue wastes away.
