When I started this hobby a few years ago I also used dry pukani rock from BRS. I cured it for 3-4 months before using it, and treated it with Lanthanum chloride to reduce P04. I kept it in my 75 gal for about 3 years, and struggled with various forms of algae from day 1. In the end I just couldn't keep the cyano and bubble algae under control, so I moved all of my livestock to a smaller aquarium and started over. I started over using live sand, and high-quality live rock purchased from an awesome LFS. I've been running this setup for about 1 1/2 years without any sign of algae at all. I didn't even get the normal startup hair algae. I will never put pukani in my tank again.
