Is this carbon okay?

What is the difference be "activated" carbon and "high density" carbon? I usually buy the activated carbon from Petsmart but messed up and bought the 'high density' version. Is the HD version okay to use?

My skimmer is going nuts for some unknown reason and I want to throw some carbon in the tank in case I got a contaminant.
