Is this crab safe

+1 That would give you more time to ID it too. It's possible it might be reef safe, but most aren't (especially hairy ones).

Yeah, looks like a gorilla crab to me. There's only a handful of reef safe crabs. Emerald crabs, Strawberry Crabs, Arrow Crabs, Acro Crabs, etc. Even then, a "reef-safe" crab can develop a taste for corals and/or fish. They're opportunistic feeders. Honestly, the only crabs I have in my tank is Scarlet Reef Hermits and even then, I don't always trust them.
In a tank there’s always a chance the good become bad
Example, red leg hermits are supposed to be safe....NOT....had only attack and kill a clownfish, all crabs are opportunistic and will attack the slow, not moving, sick or dead

I agree. The only time I'd use a crab is for bubble algae and even then, I'd probably try a chemical solution. With that said, I've had good luck with Scarlet Reef Hermits. They seem to be a lot less aggressive than other hermits, though they will not hesitate to kill a snail if it fancies it's shell (especially ceriths). In fact, I've had them kill the snail for it's shell, use it for a day or two, then decide it's original shell was better.
