my water perimeters are basically ok. calcium is a little high and phosphates are a bit high but not badly. i'm not sure about alk. because i have to get a test kit for it. thats where i'm going right now

Definitely not dead. Softies can be tempermental until they get used to your lighting, flow and chemistry. Alter any of those things and they will show you they are unhappy. They do like a LOT of light and a fair amount of flow, what are you using for light and circulation?

light i got a 50/50 bulb and i had flow recently new, but my other corals didnt like it at all so i turned it off.

What size tank? What wattage of bulb?

Likely, your lighting is not powerful enough. Contrary to popular belief, softies like that beautiful leather there love light and love moderate-high flow. It may survive with less light and flow, but it would thrive with higher light and flow. I have a lot of big, thriving softies and have used 400 watt bulbs for a long time and recently switched to 250 watt bulbs in an effort to save money on my electrical bill.

its only a 10 gallon tank. and the lighting is a Coralife T8 50/50 15 watt 18" bulb. any suggestions on other, better lighting?

i ordered a whole new light fixture, as its going in a bigger tank soon. but i figured out the problem. i forgot that my heater was unplugged because my room was holding a temp of 79 degrees so i didn't need the heater. I opened my window the other night because it was cold out and it was so hot in my room. The water temp. dropped to 73. I plugged the heater in and in a few hours, it was out and looked better then ever.

Leathers can take a while to get used to your tank, the tank cant be swinging so keep hands out and chill with the water changes. Just let it sit for about a month and it will suprise you
