Is this 'gaping'?

Are you still getting good reaction when passing your hand over it or tapping the shell? I ask because the mantle looks fantastic, no pinching and full extension. So if you're getting good reaction I wouldn't be terribly worried, but if the intake syphon remains like that, no fluctuation in how open or closed it is, it would be something I'd look into.

Agreed looks healthy to me, the reaction test as mentioned above is a good way of determining if Tridacnids are healthy.
Gaping is where the the shell will be open but the mantle will be slightly retracted.

Yeah, it retracts when I pass my hand between the light and the tank. Just wasn't sure if being able to see its insides was ok...

The clam sometimes sneezes a bit when I broadcast feed nyos plankton and seems to swallow.

Had it in my tank less than a month. Just paranoid about its health since it is worth 40% of my fortnightly pay. Haha

Spotlighting it with a tunze 8850 LED from 10am till 6pm to supplement my hydra 26HD from 12 till 8.

Will keep an eye out for growth. It's about 5.5 inches at the moment.

Do you have a better pic of the shell? Either T. crocea or T. maxima. If it's a crocea it won't get much bigger than that and if maxima it will reach about 8in size.

I think it's a maxima. Here's a video of it sneezing when plankton is put in the tank.
