Is this gonna be an issue

I picked up some extra tanks that I want to make my sumps.
They are acrylic and have holes. Can the hole be covered with an other piece of acrylic and silicone? Will this cause an issue?

Here is a picture of one covered and siliconed in:
it is a little dirty and needs cleaned up yet.
there is silicone between the piece and the tank as well.

how large is that hole?

Looks like a simple fix using a bulkhead perhaps, just cap the end.

or is that square piece around the hole actually cut and siliconed in? If so that might be a problem..hehe

hopefully that silicone was just used for a baffle box or something

its 80cm I think, a bulkhead will not fit because of the spacing below the hole.
I just wondered about if the silicone will hold.

ahh gotcha, did not notice how close that hole was to the edge. hmmmmm

heck man silicone a plate over it like you were saying and see if it holds. that's what I would try. Maybe a small plate on the other side as well. gonna look ugly but its a sump, so who cares what it looks like. :D

In the picture there is a piece already siliconed in place. It seems to not move but I want to make sure. Do not want to have to remove it later.

It would be a pain but I could weldon it in place.

Well if you just put weld on over it, it won't really help at this point. I'd say fill it up with water, leave it some place where if it leaked, it wouldn't be a big deal, and wait a few days. Wiggle it a bit, and see if any water comes out, if not, then you should be good to go.....

But honestly, I'd much prefer a tank without a hole like that. I'd probably just spring for a new tank.

I either thought of removing the silicone or just leaving it.
If I remove the silicone I would use weld-on instead.

new tanks are not an option.
I got a deal on these and have 4 of them.
