any one know what the algae in the center of tank is. At first it was nice but now its growing fast. Ill prune it today. Just curious to know if or how it reproduces and if I should take it all out. I don’t mind it. Some is cool, but if it will eventually be a prob let me know

also on the rock my Xinia is on is full of a furry algae that i am going to try to comptly remove. i tried once but it came back. it has not spread to outher rocks has just gotin full and fluffy.

The first one is Halimeda sp.. Most people find it desirable and it can be easly controlled with a little pruning. You don't have to worry about it spreading significantly.

The second one pictured I believe is a member of the caulerpa family and can become a real nuisance. I'll have to find a thread to verify this and post it here for you.

The first one is (as already said) Halimeda

The second, I can't really see for sure but could be Bryopsis? Try to look closely at the "leaves", does it look like fern leaves?

I had Bryopsis in my tank some time ago, and it looked like this:

If it is Bryopsis you should probably remove it since Bryopsis has a reputation for taking over the aquarium...

IMO the one on the Xenia is Bryopsis, a genus of siphonous green algae. Bryopsis spreads easily by multiple means, including fragmentation. Refer to the stickied thread at the top of the forum for a discussion of Bryopsis and controls. I would hand-harvest the Halimeda on occassion, and consider it a desirable algae for both looks and export. Bryopsis can dominate production in some tanks, and be difficult to keep from spreading.

I would remove it and make sure none of it floats off, it looks like Bryopsis to me, not a friendly algae for many members here
