Is this ich?

I had introduced a new fish just before my 2nd infestation of Ick. I should have quarantined it first of course. This was after at least 6 months of being Ick free. The general theory with garlic is that it improves the fishes immune system which ultimately affects the ability for Ick to multiply.
I have a 180 gal mixed reef so removing all fish was not an option. Using garlic was what worked for me personally.

Lowering salt level (SG) only kills free swimming ich. The other stages can take up to 12 weeks to emerge. There isn't an easier way. If you don't use a QT with all new fish, this will happen again.

Garlic will do nothing to cure ich.

I'm curious, why would you say garlic will do nothing to cure Ick? Please state your reasoning and experiences.

Dont mean to butt in on the garlic war, but I have similar experiences as you bru65 with garlic and vitamin concoction helping a fish in its overall health.

However I believe what MrTuskfish is saying is there is no scientific evidence to show it does indeed help your fish.

MrTuskfish are you the author of this btw?

As many times as I've had fish with ich (hundreds) and have reached for the garlic... Well lets just say I stopped buying garlic 9 years ago. People confuse a temporary immunity with some natural remedies, which will never work.

What are some natural remedies?

Copper and tank-transfer are two "natural remedies" that will cure ich. If CP isn't " natural"; its close enough.

Don't you think its time to bite the bullet, stop looking for an easier way, and save your fish? Your reaction is common on this forum section, but the answer is always the same. After you get over this episode of ich, use a QT with all new fish and avoid the problem forever. IMO & IME, its essential for long term success in the hobby.

:headwally:
Guess I should have used the term "reef safe" instead of "natural".

No, I sure am no Steven Pro; there is so much written de-bunking the garlic myths and Pro is one of the real experts on ich. So is Snorvich. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1992196

I don't think I've ever seen anything, other than skimpy individual anecdotes that support garlic as an ich cure. One of the most wide spread myths in the hobby....and hardest to kill. When it comes time to face the inevitable consequences of not always using a QT; folks will grasp at anything.
