Is this normal

I'm day 13 since setting up the tank. I see a lot of particles floating around the tank and there seems to be a layer of it at the top. Almost like a film. Anyone know what this means?

open top and you putting you hands in the tank?
Its almost always dust from the room and oil from your hands when you put your hands in
Fastest way to remove is float a paper towel and soak in for just a sec or so.....
also might want to increase water flow near the top

Better to use a powerhead to increase surface flow/agitation. Pointing the return pump to the top generally just sends the new fresh water back down into the sump. find a way to get the filmy top water pushed into the sump.

Yeah I wondered about the return pumps doing that
