Is this normal...

This happened once after I moved the tank 30 miles about 8 months ago. My brother gave me his reef tank he didn't know much about it and neither did I when I picked the tank up. He has 2 tangs in a 54g corner, they didn't fight until about the first month when I got the tank. I noticed that the yellow tang looked pale and weak. The brown tang was picking on him pretty bad. After a week of this I though he was gonna die. But he came through and lived. Now its happening again. Is there anything that causes this? The tang is starting to look white again. I know the tang is better then what it was when I got it. I can't get pics right now but has this happened to anyone before?

In general tangs need large tanks and most would argue that your 54 corner tank is too small for any tang. Also .. tangs don't tend to get along together even in large tanks.

Chances are you inherited a tank where the tangs had already acclimated to each other ... when you broke down the tank and set it back up the tangs reacted the way they may have naturally .. aggression.

I would recommend your trading in both tangs for fish that will do better in your sized tank.

Heres a good thread on the subject.

Good luck.

Yeah I knew the tank is to small and plan on trading them but I have to catch the little guys lol, thats the only problem. I found a LFS that will take them but I just have to catch them. I just want to make sure I am not giving away a sick fish this is the 2nd time he has done this.
